003-Issues encountered for revit BIM

1. How to built contour in Revit?
Through bringing different level lines/points (ddptype to create different point style)
Insert > Import CAD

Select Item > Split Surface > Drawing Line to split
Select surface > Element Properties

Notes: Orient to View ( referring to elevations/sections)
Civil 3d is for site building with more powerful tools.

2. How to add parking component?
Parking lots are family component in revit, can be added only on flat surface in revit:-
Massing & Site > Mode Site > Parking Component
Massing & Site > Building pad

3. How to create cross sections with complicated contour, site information with existing trees, pub lines?
Separate the file into site drawing & building drawing then link them together to another mother drawing. Create sections/ elevations in the mother drawing for export purposes.

4. How to create property lines/ boundary/ Setback?
Boundary: Massing & Site > Property lines
Setback creating : Masssing Site > Subregion
Planting strips : Masssing Site > Subregion (offset :1m)

5. How to create dimensions?
Create different views then dimension it.

6. How to create view specific items?
Home :Model line vs Anotate:Detail line (View Specific)

7. Revit Elements?
Revit elements are divided to 3 main categories: model elements (built on site)/ Datum Elements / View Specific Elements
-Only View specific Elements are bonded with particular view

8. When a wall is drawn over a column, the column changes into brick, how to avoid that?
Select items>family properties>Category and parameters>family parameters > automatically join > uncheck it

9. Drawing sequence:-

1. Establish the grid
2. Build the walls and columns
One wall type will do ( only architectural wall / columns)
3. After all the walls/columns, change the property to intended wall type
(Change one wall, then match type (match properties) for the rest)
4. Paste align the elements to different levels
5. Insert window and doors accordingly after wall done throughout the levels.
6. Build floor slabs.
7. Build roof
8. Build Ceilings.
9. Build staircase and structure(beam)
10. Build site.( can be linked revit, a separate file for easy access and lighter file size)

Notes: - in revit, no layer concept, only family components which is pre-defined of floors/walls/window/doors….

10. Methodology of residential design:-
1. Build different unit design
2. Build Block Plans with link unit designs
3. Build Building Block with link Block Plans
4. Build Master Plan with link Building Blocks
Master Plan study can be study through changing unit design and update links.
( to be further explored…)

Please feel free to comment. Cheers.
